Compassion - Contributing whatever we can to lessen the pain of the hurt.
A dog just gave birth to a litter of puppies. It was a cute briskly bunch of 6 dogs. The new born lay basking in the sun and glittered like gold. Everyone who witnessed became so excited and started clicking pictures and sharing them.
A 5 year old wanted to see what the commotion was all about and he too was excited. He watched the dogs for a while and hurried to his home. He brought his milk bottle, opened it, poured it in a saucer and placed before the dogs. When asked why, he replied, "They seemed hungry." The dogs lapped up the milk in a jiffy.
We often get carried away by our thoughts of self centered attitude that we fail to feel human. Being human is sharing the pain of others to lessen it. Even a small gesture of compassion makes a huge difference in someone's life.
God has summarized it wisely, 'Love others as you love yourself.' Contributing whatever we can - money, time, physical effort, kind words to make even ones life pleasant will make our life meaningful.
